In the dynamic landscape of football coaching, technology continues to reshape the way teams analyze their performance. Brendan Bohon sheds light on the transformative impact of Veo and how he uses the new Instant Playback feature.

Brendan Bohon has used Veo to reshape the training and performance analysis at Forsyth Country Day School, where he serves as a history teacher. As the Assistant Girls Varsity Coach and Head Boys Varsity Coach, his dedication to leveraging technology for educational purposes within the realm of soccer is evident.

Bohon is familiar with Veo due to his past experience, which has inspired him to suggest its use at his current school. "First and foremost, we're about education, and I think football and education is every bit as important as education in the classroom," he tells Veo. The camera's integration has been integral to their training routines, utilized not only during in-season and end-of-season meetings but also for opponent analysis during the season.

Bohon is a firm believer in the saying that "film doesn't lie." Its accuracy serves as an important asset in understanding and strategizing the game. The Instant Playback feature, that got released a couple of months ago, has revolutionized their in-game adaptability, allowing the team to make quick, tactical adjustments during games. "Film is important at every single level of this game," he emphasized, underscoring its significance in refining team performance.

Until recently, not everyone had the chance to conduct video analysis during the game. However, thanks to the Instant Playback feature, this capability is now open to Veo users globally.

Users can now watch specific moments either during or immediately after the game. Instead of waiting for the recording to be uploaded and processed, users can instantly access these moments. This enables them to analyze and demonstrate various situations to their players right away on the sideline.



Bohon recalls a recent playoff game where the Instant Playback revealed an opposition's defensive vulnerability, leading to a tactical decision that capitalized on the observed gap between defenders.

“The opposition's left defender kept coming wide to pressure my right winger. You could see on the film, that there was a big gap between the center back and the left back. We showed him and our center midfielder on film, and then we were able to exploit the gap between the center back and outside back and scored the second goal. We're able to see it because of the film, and it helped us attack them.”

Veo's Instant Playback feature has proven to be instrumental in the players' development. Bohon notes that the ability to review game situations almost immediately enhances the players' adaptability, allowing for real-time adjustments on the field. This approach not only aids players but also challenges coaches to evolve their understanding of the game, enhancing their coaching strategies.

Bohon's own growth as a coach is a testament to the technology's impact. "As a coach almost 38 years old, I am still very much learning each day, and I swear the film is just aiding my development," he affirms. The depth of analysis provided by Veo and the features have significantly enhanced his coaching insights, particularly in executing effective strategies in critical areas of the field.

“The development of a player with the live film changes the game, and as coaches, we have to develop ourselves to be able to process what we're seeing live and then help our players understand what's happening.”

Bohon continues: 

“It's a super useful tool and it has improved our team on the field tremendously, not just execution of plays, but also learning when and where to be on the field, seeing their positioning. Everything about it, the data that the video spits back out after games, is awesome. It's just a really cool tool, and I'm grateful that there are technologies now that can assist players. Because frankly, we didn't have this when I was growing up 20 years ago for sure.” 

It is not only useful for the players on the field but also for the players on the bench, who can receive tactical inputs before they get on the pitch. It is also a useful tool for showing two to three sequences that can turn the game around during the halftime break.

“To be able to show our substitutes on the bench certain things to look for when they get on the field is important. It's changed the way we can adapt, and that's so important.

A culture of development
With Veo on the sideline, it doesn't take long after the final whistle before Bohon and the coaching team are asked whether the players can soon get the link to the game to analyze their own performance.

“The guys are so eager to see the recording and see the mistakes they make and try to learn from them. It's almost becoming a culture of development. So that's super helpful too. They watch the film, and they'll pick out moments themselves, or the assistant coach and I will highlight moments for them to look at. And then additionally, we'll highlight 8 to 10 clips per game of things we can work on or things that we did well each game. So we always go over the film individually with players when needed and also collectively as a group.”

The integration of Instant Playback significantly contributes to the development of young talents. Coach Bohon emphasizes its impact on players' development, noting, "It just aids in the development of the player to be able to see things close to life, just increases their ability to make changes on the fly," Bohon ends.
