Overlays: Let the local community take center stage on Veo Live
August 24th 2023

With the new overlays feature, you can now promote your next big match or your club’s sponsors on Veo Live.

If you're involved in the local football club, your involvement goes beyond training sessions and selecting the best starting lineup for the weekend match. In football clubs, regardless of the level, a considerable amount of daily focus is also placed on aspects that extend beyond the actions taking place on the pitch.

These tasks include seeking sponsors who can assist in financing expenses that are inevitable in the football world. Having a sponsor provides the opportunity to acquire new kits and equipment, as well as funding transport for away trips. It also opens the door to obtaining resources such as a Veo camera.

Simultaneously, it's crucial to promote your own club and team as much as possible. This plays a pivotal role in expanding your fan base and ensuring the acquisition of funds, equipment, and venues for matches.

“Sponsors are hugely important”
At the German club FC Ederbergland, located in the region of Hesse, people in the club are facing these scenarios in their everyday lives within the club. Here, Tobias Butka is a member of the club’s “Digital Team” who is responsible for the implementation of the Veo cameras in the youth section.

"Sponsors are immensely significant, especially for smaller clubs. By fostering stronger connections with current sponsors or enlisting new sponsors, we have the potential to implement further enhancements within the club. All clubs will be happy to have opportunities to generate more sponsorship money," Tobias Butka, who is an avid Veo user, expresses.

But what’s the easiest way to engage with the local business community and gain sponsorships?

Overlays in Veo Live
At Veo, we recently launched the overlays feature. Here, you can upload images and display them on your Live matches in Veo Live. You might have an upcoming tournament, information about the next match, or simply add the logo of the club. But also, it is a great opportunity to promote the Club's sponsors and gain new sponsorships.

Tobias Butka and FC Ederbergland utilise overlays in all of the clubs’ live stream matches, using them not only to showcase the club's sponsors but also upcoming events such as bigger tournaments within and around the club.

Furthermore, the club can use overlays to raise awareness about itself and even attract talent to the club.

“The idea of being able to show additional information in the livestream is great. It increases the attention of our club, and in the best case, it will also allow us to attract more talent in the children's and youth sectors,” Butka says.

Get help to cover the costs
In the English club Aston Youth FC, Chris Jordan is involved in the youth department. Here, they also use the overlays when they are live-streaming matches with Veo. For Jordan, user-friendliness is valued when adding overlays to the matches.

"The new features are very easy to update in our team profile and simple to activate when we start live streaming matches," Jordan expresses.

Like FC Ederbergland, Aston Youth FC also utilises Veo footage to showcase sponsors, contributing to financing equipment such as Veo cameras. Due to limited resources, the club employs live streaming to highlight local sponsors.

"It's nice to show the club logo on matches when we stream them. As a small club, we have a sponsor that helps cover the cost of our Veo. To be able to add their logo to the stream easily is brilliant to give them some recognition and exposure," Jordan says when asked how Aston Youth FC is using the new feature.

At Aston Youth FC, based in West Oxfordshire, England, Jordan also recognizes the opportunity to use overlays to engage even more local businesses and thereby provide more of the club's teams with the possibility to record their matches.

“With additional sponsors, we can afford additional cameras so more teams can share the weekend Veo experience,” he ends.

At Veo, we understand the challenges that clubs face in securing sponsors and sustaining their operations. The journey of attracting sponsors can be an uphill battle, especially for grassroots and smaller clubs with limited resources.

By making sponsor engagement more accessible, overlays pave the way for local businesses to take center stage, aligning their brand with the enthusiasm and spirit of grassroots football. It's about nurturing the growth of clubs and their communities alike.
