Discover how Lincolnshire FA uses Veo AI football cameras to help players transition between academy and grassroots football through systematic video analysis and targeted feedback sessions.

"When he came to you guys, he probably struggled just with adapting to the different surface, a different way of playing, a different challenge with the opposition," says Callum Oakenfold from Lincolnshire FA, describing how video analysis helped track a player's transition between academy and grassroots football.

Oakenfold discovered that video feedback created conversations around player frustrations and adaptation strategies that wouldn't have emerged through traditional coaching methods alone. The visual evidence provided objective clarity on what players wanted to do versus what they could actually execute at different levels.

This challenges the assumption that grassroots football development happens independently from professional academy systems.

Lincolnshire FA's innovative player transition support

Callum Oakenfold works with Lincolnshire FA overseeing player development across multiple levels of football. His role involves supporting players who transition between academy environments and grassroots clubs throughout the region.

Lincolnshire FA manages football development across diverse club environments, from professional academy loan placements to community grassroots teams. Players often move between these different contexts, each requiring specific adaptation strategies.

This creates unique challenges for coaches trying to support players who must adjust their game style, decision-making, and physical approach when moving between different competitive levels and playing surfaces.

The struggle with traditional player transition support

Before implementing systematic video analysis, coaches struggled to help players understand why their performance changed between different football environments. "He hasn't got the freedom that he had in academy football," Oakenfold explains. "There's more pressure especially with how you guys are doing."

Traditional feedback methods relied on verbal discussions about what players should change without visual evidence of specific moments. "What he wants to do, what he potentially can't do and how he needs to potentially adapt his game," Oakenfold notes about the frustrations players expressed.

Players would repeat ineffective approaches because they couldn't see themselves making decisions that worked in academy football but failed at grassroots level. "In academy football because it isn't as important the result, we want him to be himself, we want to develop him so he makes mistakes," Oakenfold explains. "But where you guys are, it's like middle of the pitch, we got to be careful."

Without visual evidence of these tactical differences, players remained confused about why their natural playing style wasn't translating to success at different levels.

Veo's impact on player adaptation and development

Lincolnshire FA uses Veo to capture both academy training and grassroots match footage, creating comprehensive video records that support player transitions. "We would watch it so we would have our own interpretation and it basically just opened up really good conversations around where his frustrations were," Oakenfold recalls.

Veo's automatic recording eliminates the need for dedicated camera operators during matches and training sessions. "We came and watched the games live and when we're picking up stuff we can also bring that to the table in those meetings," Oakenfold explains. "I need to watch it back to justify it and then give it to him."

The technology enables coaches to show players specific moments where adaptation was needed. "He needs to think about his positioning here or actually there's better position to go take the ball up in this moment because of what the opposition are doing," Oakenfold notes about the tactical insights video analysis provided.

Players can now see visual evidence of why certain approaches work in different environments. "Once he adjusted and we helped him with those conversations around you need to be aware of the pitch and the opposition, you could see his development really kick on," Oakenfold explains. The systematic video feedback helped players understand when to use their abilities and when to adapt their approach.
