"I was amazed at just how quickly it could be put up, taken down, no need to stand by the camera once you'd synced your phone to it and press go and record," says Jamie Harrison, Director of Sport at Gordons School.
Harrison discovered that Veo eliminated the complex setup procedures and staffing requirements that had made video analysis impractical for regular use. The technology transformed what was once a labor-intensive process into a simple, automated solution.
This challenges the assumption that comprehensive video analysis in school sports requires significant technical expertise and dedicated personnel.
Gordon's School's comprehensive sports technology program
Jamie Harrison serves as Director of Sport at Gordon's School, where he oversees athletic programs across multiple sports and year groups. The school has been implementing video technology for sports analysis, examination assessment, and community engagement for over four years.
Gordon's School operates as a boarding school with students from overseas whose parents cannot regularly attend matches. The institution serves diverse athletic programs requiring different approaches to player development, assessment, and family communication.
This creates unique challenges for sports staff who must balance high-performance coaching, academic assessment requirements, and maintaining connections with international families who want to follow their children's sporting progress.
The struggle with traditional sports filming methods
Before adopting automated camera technology, Gordon's School wrestled with inadequate filming solutions that hindered both coaching and assessment. "We've been around the houses with holding iPhones, iPads that have then run out of storage halfway through a game," Harrison explains.
The school invested in expensive manual camera systems that proved impractical. "Investing quite a lot of money into tripods that can get the camera so high in the air but then take two people 45 minutes to set up and dismount as well," Harrison recalls. "And needing someone to be there to film it at the same time."

Traditional filming methods required extensive training and multiple staff members. "We had to hold CPD sessions regularly just for students and staff to know how to use it," Harrison notes. The complexity prevented consistent video capture across different sports and match situations.
Without reliable footage, students couldn't perform self-assessment, and examination boards received incomplete evidence of student performance during practical assessments.
Veo transforms sports education and assessment
Gordon's School discovered Veo through a parent recommendation and immediately recognized its potential for educational applications. "I heard through a parent at school about Veo and got in contact and we had one of the cameras to sample at very early stages," Harrison recalls.
Veo's automated setup eliminates the technical barriers that prevented consistent filming. "It's taking away one more thing to think about as a coach. You can set it up in less than five minutes and take it down in about five minutes," Harrison explains.
The technology revolutionized examination assessments by providing complete student coverage. "You can pan and spotlight the player, you can stay on them and really focus on them," Harrison notes. "You're watching every minute they play rather than maybe wondering what they're doing because they're off screen."
Students gained immediate access to self-assessment tools. "By the time you're up the next morning, it's already uploaded to your video account online. The students can get to work and they can start analyzing it," Harrison explains. This capability filled a major gap in sports education where self-assessment was previously impossible.
The platform enabled international family engagement through live streaming and highlights. "Parents who are overseas or aren't able to attend the games can watch their son or daughter participate for the school," Harrison notes. The school created a YouTube channel allowing global access to student sporting achievements.
Examination boards responded positively to the comprehensive footage quality. "Our feedback from our moderator and chief moderator has been exceptional since we started using Veo," Harrison explains.
