In Veo, we are proud of the many clubs that use our camera and platform. One of our more profiled users is the Premier League club, Burnley Football Club. They have been using Veo in their academy since 2019. 

We took a trip to Burnley, Lancashire, to see how the team uses Veo to analyze matches and optimize training.

We met up with Shawn Young, U18s performance analyst, and John Townson, U18s assistant manager, on a beautiful British spring day. Burnley F.C. 's training facilities are situated on the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall - an early renaissance castle surrounded by Lancashire's blooming fields. 

But we did not make the trip from our office in Copenhagen only to chat about landscapes and old castles. We had a long talk with Young and Townson about how they use video technology to prepare the young ones in their academy to one day enter Turf Moor.

Yes, you heard right. 

These players are ambitious and have clear goals in mind for their future. And that is, of course, to be doing their best, both on and off the field. And technology is vital for analyzing and learning from the game off the field. 

Using video analysis to develop talents into pros

"One of our players from the academy just started playing in the first team. Using video analysis benefited him and helped him make that step into the first team," Young explains. 

Keeping up with technology and innovation has played a crucial role for the players and the team moving forward. 

"I think video is still fairly a new thing in football. All the other teams have the advantage if you are behind with the technology," says Young.

Being able to see everything in one shot

Burnley F.C. has used Veo from the U23 team down to the under-nines. The Veo Camera is recording all the matches. The older the players get, the more the club uses it for tactical reasons. 

"For the age groups below 23, we might use it for team shape and striker positioning. For the younger age group, it is more for goals, set pieces, foot technique, the passing of the ball, and being able to see good highlights of themselves," says Young. 

Also, seeing the areas of improvement has been quite an essential part of developing as a player. 

"With the old-fashioned cameras, we could not capture the whole pitch. With the Veo camera, we can see if the ball is on the opposite side of the pitch. As well as seeing what the defenders are doing in defense and the strikers, in one shot," says Towson. 

"Without the recordings, we would just be relying on here and now"

One of the team's favorite features is the ability to leave the camera on land, rock standing, and follow the ball itself. 

"We always like to look back at the training sessions and games. Without the recording, we would just be relying on here and now. And obviously, your eyes can not see everything. So yeah, it's a beneficial tool," says Townson.
