To give women's sports the space it deserves, Veo has created a new content universe on TikTok and Instagram under the name Veo Femení.

These days all eyes are on England where Women's Euros 2022 is starting this week. This year's tournament is already Europe’s biggest-ever women’s sporting event, with more than 450,000 tickets sold across the 25 days of the competition. Even the final was sold out in an hour, putting it on course to break attendance records at any Euros, male or female.

This year, we’ve also seen more sold-out matches in just a couple of hours. FC Barcelona Femení hosted more than 91,000 fans at Camp Nou for the Champions League quarter-final against rivals Real Madrid, setting a new all-time attendance world record for a women's soccer match.

But it’s not all rosy. The talented athletes are there. The fans are there. But the media? They are not. The media coverage is still dominated by the men's game. A recent study shows that over the past 30 years, we have not seen meaningful change in the amount of coverage women athletes receive.

In the study, Cheryl Cooky, professor at Purdue University, describes how women’s sports only get media coverage when there is a bigger elite tournament:

“Every now and then, women’s sports break through the glass ceiling of media coverage, but only when it’s an elite, international competition. Even these mega events are eclipsed by the steady stream of men's sports, which are covered in season, out of season, with more energy, and at higher production values," Cooky describes.

But women’s sports shouldn’t only be highlighted when there is an elite tournament.

Veo launches Veo Femení platform
To give women's sports the space it deserves from the grassroots and up, Veo has created a new content universe on TikTok and Instagram under the name Veo Femení. This is our platform for any female athlete to show the world what they can do - and it’s our long-term commitment to the women's game.

With Veo Femení and the Veo Cam 2, we are now changing the way women's sports has been broadcasted. It’s now possible for everyone around the world to record and livestream their games and put a new lens on the women's game.

The new platform was kicked off internally at our Headquarters in Copenhagen last week where we invited former New Zealand national player and Champions League Winner Bex Smith to the stage. She talked about the difference between the men’s game and the women’s game; and the opportunity for growth, both culturally and especially commercially.

Everyone at Veo is extremely excited about this new platform. We can’t wait to show the world all the amazing screamers that we record every day around the world.
