The Mass Commanders is all about development and learning the game. Veo caught up with co-directors Rudy Crichlow, Jr. and Markus Potyranski to hear how they have used Veo to help the players reach their goals.

Mass Commanders/ICE Basketball Program, or MCIB, is a youth basketball organization that attracts players from the Greater Boston, Metro West, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire areas. The program was created to support as many kids as possible to excel as student-athletes and have the opportunity to play college basketball if possible.

MCIB offers a wide variety of programs including one on one training, group clinics, and premiere tournament play. The program is following a philosophy where each player will use practice time to earn minutes. The goal is to help each player reach its full potential as the program focuses on individual skills improvement. Every year, the aim is to have the tournament teams compete at the elite, state, and national levels.

Making the players students of the game

“Video is everything right now. With Veo you basically have an interactive view that’s never missing any plays. Coaches can see it crystal clear,” says Rudy Crichlow Jr., MCIB Coach and Co-director.

Rudy Crichlow Jr. is Co-director and a coach for MCIB. Addionotilay he is among other things training professional players in the European, Israeli and Canadian leagues as well as USA Basketball Junior National players. Being a former basketball player himself, and a coach for more than 20 years, Crichlow Jr. has seen the impact of recording basketball and letting the athletes have a critical look at their performance.

“With Veo we can see everything crystal clear. The new integration of the highlights at the bottom of the back end platform are really helpful, because you can break it down by assist, by player, by any category that you create. It’s light years ahead of where we thought we we’re going to be, now we can see everything,” says Crichlow Jr.

Furthermore the players can also see the benefits of recording basketball and watching moments back. Video is about the only resource college coaches have for their next recruiting class, so choosing a recording device with high quality video and wide angle lens is crucial.

“College coaches likes to see full-length film. They want to see how you act when your playing poorly, as well as when you’re playing well. Veo helps because it captures the whole game, and I can easily send it to the coaches,” says Eli Gross, MCIB 17u player.

With Veo you also have individual player profiles, allowing each player to have their own highlights without potential scouts needing to watch the full game.

“Veo has helped the players just by making them more students of the game. When you see yourself play it's very different than when you’re just in the moment,” says Potyranski, MCIB coach & Co-director.

“Top favorite things about Veo has to be the artificial intelligence component, it's really cool how the cameras can track the ball and on top of that from a birds-eye view,” Potyranski continues.

“We’ve become more independent”

In Veo we have a mission to make advanced sports technology accessible to all levels. Being assisted by Veo will help MCIB achieve their goal to support as many young players as possible. We aim to be the best camera for recording basketball games and training session.

“Veo has helped us immensely. Now we get to focus more on coaching whereas in the past we may have been looking for a parent to take care of our video responsibilities. We’ve become more independent,” says Potyranski.
