We went to sunny southern California to visit the USL Championship club, Orange County Soccer Club. The club has a rich history of success and excellence. In addition to the professional OCSC team, the club also has vast ambitions for the academy team.

We met up with head coach Richard Chaplow to hear how the club is developing players at the academy, among other things, by using the Veo platform to analyze matches and training sessions. 

Taking advantage of the technology 

Orange County Soccer Club's coaching philosophy is to begin teaching the basics and using them as building blocks to improve players individually, as well as helping them acquire necessary team concepts. An essential part of the coaching is the use of technology.

"The youth nowadays have everything they need at their fingertips. Now everything is just a button away. We have a huge responsibility to make sure we are using technology right," says Chaplow.

Veo gives the coaches and the players the ability to constantly crack open and look into the details of a game.

"To put the camera on, forget about it, go and coach and focus on the session. It's just carefree and easy and accessible," says Chaplow.

Watching things back can change the whole perception of the game

"When you're in the game, and you're sort of in the heat of the moment, you feel like you understand if you played well or not. But when you sit down and spend some time in front of the screen, and watch things back, quite often it does look different," says Chaplow.

Henry and everybody else in the academy can now watch back the footage, talk it through with the coach, and see what they are doing well or need to improve. With that, they can speed up their development.

"Veo gives us that ability to focus on the session. The interactive mode is a big thing for me. From a coaching aspect, the interactive view allows us to zoom all the way out, move the screen around wherever you want it to be", Chaplow says. 

We can say that exciting things are happening over at Orange County, and we are happy to help the ambitious club to reach its full potential by using video technology.

"We don't always have time as coaches to go through every single thing. Having the film available to share with them gives them that accountability and ownership, to go seek that out and then bring some things to us", Chaplow finishes.
