Taking soccer to the next level with video recording
January 31st 2020
Anna Louise Fjelldal

We have taken a trip to the beautiful city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. Here we visited Major League Soccer's CF Montréal to chat about their use of video technology and Veo in the academy.

At Centre Nutrilait, the training ground of CF Montreal, formerly Montreal Impact, we were curious to hear about the player's future goals and how Veo has impacted the academy. Will technology help these players?

Without spoiling too much, we can undoubtedly say that technology has greatly impacted both the team as a whole and the individual players' performances.

We met up with two talented and ambitious U19 soccer players, Yannick Laurent and Lundon Durand Browne.

"Ever since I was 12 years old, I have planned to be a professional soccer player," says Laurent and continues: "The World Cup is coming up in 2026, that is going to be amazing if I can be a part of it."

And the World Cup 2026 is not hosted just anywhere, it is actually co-held in Canada for the first time. We're guessing that brings some extra motivation to qualify for the National team.

"Video analysis makes me feel like a pro player"

Technology has played a significant role in advancing and bringing the players' future as professional athletes closer.

"Video analysis is the key part of the technology in our sport. It makes me feel like a pro player, like watching myself on TV or my phone. It is also the best way to access as many people as possible. For example, my family abroad can easily see me play," says Browne.

When the team is on the field, everything is going fast. Recording the soccer matches through Veo gives a new understanding of the game.

"You can see the movements, the space, and the players behind your back that you never knew were there on the field, so it's really helpful," says Laurent.

Veo lets you highlight the best moments of the game

Laurent also points out that Veo can highlight personalized key moments of the game and make them into mashups.

"This allows me to send it to scouts that don't necessarily come up here to the north in Canada. It's an easy way to be seen on a bigger scale, and the next step for me is to push as hard as I can to get to that first pro contract," says Laurent.

Veo is looking forward to following Laurent, Browne, and the rest of the team at CF Montreal Academy in their future soccer careers. And we can't wait to see even more highlights on the field from the Canadian team.

We also had a chance to talk to some coaches for our visit at Centre Nutrilait. Read more about the coach's experience with Veo here.
